Orange County Museum of Art Relocates: New Home and What to Know

The Orange County Museum of Art has opened a temporary residency while its permanent building is completed, with the new facility scheduled to open in 2021.

The museum’s temporary space at South Coast Plaza Village launched with a presentation featuring six artists active across the Pacific Rim. The opening exhibitions run through March 17, and admission is free.

Operating under the name OCMAEXPAND-SANTA ANA during its stay at South Coast Plaza Village, the museum will return to a permanent home designed by architect Thom Mayne at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

“The Orange County Museum of Art has championed innovative artists throughout its 65-year history. At this important milestone in our life, we are proud to honor that bold tradition with a unique series of special exhibitions with OCMAEXPAND-SANTA ANA, our temporary space at South Coast Plaza Village,” said Todd D. Smith, director and CEO of OCMA.

OCMA has built a reputation for innovation and for supporting working artists. The museum’s collection includes more than 3,500 works, and over the most recent five years the museum has showcased artists from 23 Pacific Rim nations, including Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea and Vietnam.
