Low-cost carrier Norwegian Air will expand its long-haul network in 2018, adding new nonstop services between the United States and several major European hubs: Madrid (MAD), Amsterdam (AMS) and Milan (MXP).
Beginning May 7, Norwegian will introduce a four-times-weekly route linking New York’s JFK airport and Amsterdam. On June 18 the airline will add a second four-times-weekly transatlantic service between JFK and Milan.
In July, Norwegian plans to launch four weekly flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Madrid, and starting July 18 it will operate three weekly roundtrips between Madrid and JFK.
With these new routes, Norwegian’s nonstop transatlantic network will expand to 61 routes serving 13 U.S. airports, increasing options and connectivity for travelers between the U.S. and Europe.
“2017 has been a year of exponential growth for Norwegian in Europe and the United States. Next year, we will continue our long-haul expansion by offering passengers easy and affordable connections between the U.S. and some of Europe’s most exciting cities,” said Bjorn Kjos, CEO of Norwegian Air.
These additions reflect the carrier’s strategy to broaden affordable transatlantic choices. By connecting major U.S. gateways with key European cities, Norwegian aims to provide competitive pricing and more schedule flexibility for both leisure and business travelers. Passengers can expect a mix of convenient departure times and frequent services on high-demand routes, particularly during the summer travel season.
Travelers planning trips to or from Madrid, Amsterdam or Milan should review the new schedules and availability as Norwegian rolls out the services. The increase in nonstop offerings may also stimulate better connections and routing options across partner networks and onward European destinations.
As airlines continue to adjust capacity and routes, these new Norwegian services will contribute to greater competition on transatlantic corridors, potentially offering lower fares and more choices for passengers traveling between the United States and these prominent European cities.
