Steam & Rye is a stylish new evening destination in London. Created by entrepreneur Nick House (co-founder of Mahiki, Whisky Mist and Bodo Schloss) together with model Kelly Brook, the venue channels the glamour and grit of 1920s America with a lavish bar and restaurant, live music and a dance floor.
Open from 4 p.m. until 3 a.m., Monday to Saturday, Steam & Rye blends “Great Gatsby” opulence with Wild West character. The club is housed in the former Bank of New York building on Leadenhall Street, in the heart of the City of London.
House explains that the building sparked the concept the moment he saw it. “It was love at first sight when I set eyes upon the old Bank of New York on Leadenhall Street and immediately the concept sprung to life in my head,” he says. In his imagination, scenes from films such as Hugo and Gangs of New York combined to form a clear creative direction, and he was determined to bring Steam & Rye to life.
He began assembling a diverse team nearly a year before opening: set designers, illustrators, chefs and expert mixologists who could translate his vision into a memorable venue. The result is a distinctive atmosphere that mixes theatrical design, handcrafted cocktails and a menu designed to complement the late-night entertainment.
Steam & Rye aims to offer more than a typical bar or restaurant. Its concept focuses on immersive evenings where décor, live music and curated drinks work together to create an indulgent, social experience. Whether visitors come for dinner, a cocktail or dancing, the venue seeks to provide a sense of escape with a period-inspired aesthetic updated for modern nightlife.
The location in the former bank adds architectural character and a unique backdrop for the venue’s interiors. High ceilings, period details and thoughtful lighting contribute to an ambiance that balances vintage charm with contemporary comforts.
For Londoners and visitors looking for late-night entertainment in a distinctive setting, Steam & Rye presents a blend of theatrical design, quality food and crafted drinks, all framed by live music and a lively dance floor. The venue’s hours and central City of London address make it a convenient choice for evening socialising throughout the week.
