Although the peak summer travel season is still underway, it’s a good time to plan shoulder-season getaways. Several new air routes are launching this fall and winter that will expand options for travelers across the United States and to select international destinations.
In November, Delta Air Lines will begin daily nonstop service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Omaha (OMA). Then in December, Delta plans to increase flights to Florida, adding twice-daily nonstop service between Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) and Miami (MIA) along with expanded service to Orlando (MCO), Fort Myers (RSW), West Palm Beach (PBI) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). These additions will create more flexibility for both leisure travelers and those connecting through major hubs.
Also starting in December, American Airlines will introduce several new routes. Daily service will begin between Phoenix (PHX) and Chihuahua (CUU) in Mexico, and biweekly flights will connect Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) with Acapulco (ACA) and Huatulco (HUX). American will also operate seasonal nonstop service from Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Honolulu (HNL), and it will launch a weekly flight from Miami (MIA) to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, marking the first time a U.S. carrier has served that Caribbean destination.
Looking ahead to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, several U.S. carriers have announced new service to Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport (HND). American Airlines will add nonstop flights from Dallas and Los Angeles (LAX). Delta Air Lines plans to begin Haneda service from Seattle (SEA), Detroit (DTW), Atlanta (ATL), Portland (PDX) and Honolulu (HNL). United will expand its transpacific network with new nonstop flights to Haneda from Chicago (ORD), Washington-Dulles (IAD) and Los Angeles (LAX). These routes are intended to meet increased demand for convenient access to central Tokyo during the Games and to provide improved year-round connectivity between major U.S. cities and Haneda.
These schedule additions reflect continued airline efforts to match capacity with demand across domestic and international markets, especially during shoulder seasons when travelers seek quieter airports and better fares. If you’re considering a fall or winter trip, check carrier schedules and fare options early to find the best connections and prices on these newly launched routes.
