Nantucket Shop Preserves Traditional Weaving Craftsmanship

Just 48 square miles in area and only 3.5 miles across at its widest point, the charming island of Nantucket is rich in tradition. One local institution that preserves time-honored textile practices is Nantucket Looms, where weaving continues on the second-floor studio in full view of visitors. Guests can observe master weavers at work producing heirloom-quality home goods, cashmere wraps and clothing, and accessories crafted from fine materials such as Japanese silk, merino wool, and soft mohair.

Nantucket Looms showcases the work of more than 80 local artists and artisans, including potters, wood carvers, basket weavers, and specialty makers. The shop’s inventory spans jewelry, home items, and artisanal food products, all reflecting the island’s dedication to craft and quality. Over the years, Nantucket Looms’ pieces have attracted notable admirers and have been included in prestigious showrooms and museum collections.

Founded in 1968 by businessman Bill Euler together with master weaver and artist Andy Oates, the store remains rooted in its original commitment to handmade textiles and community craftsmanship. Located at 51 Main Street, Nantucket Looms continues to draw visitors who appreciate expertly made textiles and locally produced artisan goods.
