Marriott Expands Rapidly Across the Caribbean and Latin America

Marriott International is planning significant expansion in the Caribbean and Latin America, aiming to grow its regional portfolio by roughly 75 percent with 60 new hotels through 2018. Today the company operates 93 hotels in the region and currently has more than 60 additional properties in development, including 11 new hotels across six Brazilian cities.

So far this year Marriott has opened eight hotels across the Caribbean and Latin America, and expects to open another nine before year-end. These openings highlight the diversity of Marriott’s global brands and include properties such as Marriott Port-Au-Prince (Haiti), the Guyana Marriott Hotel, the re-launch of the iconic Renaissance Jaragua Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, and the Sortis Hotel, Spa & Casino — an Autograph Collection hotel in Panama.

“In 2015 our company’s theme in the region has been ‘crossing new borders’ as we open hotels in exciting, developing markets like Haiti and Guyana,” said Tim Sheldon, president of Caribbean and Latin America operations, Marriott International. “A growing middle class across the region is increasingly eager to travel and conduct business on the road. That demand, combined with strong brand performance in major gateway markets, creates tremendous opportunity for Marriott’s world-class brands and service.”
