Marriott International is set to open its first hotel in Novosibirsk, Russia, the country’s third-largest city after Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Marriott Novosibirsk Hotel is scheduled to open in 2014 on Lenin Square, directly opposite the city’s Opera House, and will offer 175 guestrooms.
The hotel will include a lobby lounge, a restaurant and bar, an indoor swimming pool and a business center, providing amenities for both leisure and business travelers. The location on Lenin Square places guests within easy reach of cultural venues, dining and city attractions.
“Last October, we announced plans to grow our portfolio in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States by more than 50 percent by 2015, and signing the Marriott Novosibirsk Hotel is another important step in reaching that goal,” said Amy McPherson, president and managing director of Marriott International in Europe. This opening is part of a broader expansion across Russia.
Marriott plans to launch nine properties in Russia over the coming three years. Among the projects announced are the 234-room Moscow Marriott Novy Arbat, set to open in 2014, as well as two hotels in Sochi—Courtyard by Marriott Sochi Plaza and Krasnaya Polyana Marriott Hotel—supporting the hospitality needs related to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
The Marriott Novosibirsk Hotel marks the brand’s entry into the Siberian market, aligning with the company’s strategy to expand its presence in key Russian cities. With a mix of comfortable guestrooms and essential facilities like dining, fitness and meeting spaces, the hotel aims to serve international and domestic visitors to Novosibirsk, including business travelers, cultural tourists and attendees of regional events.
By situating the property on a central square near prominent cultural institutions, Marriott is positioning the Novosibirsk hotel as a convenient base for guests who want to explore the city’s theaters, museums and culinary scene. The inclusion of an indoor pool and business center also reflects a focus on year-round comfort and professional services, important considerations in Siberia’s varied climate.
As Marriott continues its rollout across Russia, these new properties are expected to increase lodging options and boost the hospitality infrastructure in host cities. The company’s expansion underscores growing international investment in Russia’s travel and tourism sector and highlights Novosibirsk’s role as an emerging destination for business and leisure travel.
