Marriott has announced plans to develop a $500 million The Ritz-Carlton hotel and residences tower in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. The landmark project is slated for the corner of Broadway and 28th Street and will add a new luxury destination to a rapidly evolving area of the city.
The tower will rise to more than 500 feet and offer sweeping views of the Empire State Building and downtown Manhattan. The property is designed to include a fine-dining restaurant, a Club Lounge, The Ritz-Carlton Spa and a rooftop bar, alongside a large public garden and open terraces. Event facilities will feature generous meeting space and two ballrooms. The hotel component will consist of 250 guestrooms and 16 branded residences, with an anticipated opening in 2021.
“We are thrilled to be working with Flag Luxury Group to bring this significant project to the NoMad area. Thanks to buzzing restaurants and bars, unique retail and notable architecture, NoMad has become one of Manhattan’s most popular neighborhoods,” said Tony Capuano, executive vice president and global chief development officer of Marriott International. “This signing speaks to the strong demand we are experiencing for luxury hospitality and branded residences.”
Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, president of Flag Luxury Group—the development firm leading the luxury hospitality build—added that The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad, will become a focal point within one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods. She noted the building’s prime location and refined design will be paired with The Ritz-Carlton’s signature level of service.
The project reflects continued interest in high-end hotels and branded residences in Manhattan, where demand for premium accommodations and residential offerings remains strong. With its mix of dining, wellness, public space and event venues, the new Ritz-Carlton aims to serve both local residents and visitors while contributing to NoMad’s growing reputation as a center for culinary, retail and architectural activity.
Developers emphasize that the tower’s public amenities—such as the garden and terraces—are intended to create inviting, accessible spaces that integrate the building with the surrounding streetscape. The combination of private residences, hotel rooms and extensive amenities positions the property to appeal to a range of guests and homeowners seeking a luxury urban experience.
As construction progresses, the project is expected to have a visible impact on the neighborhood, adding new hospitality jobs and supporting nearby retail and service businesses. The introduction of two ballrooms and flexible meeting spaces also aims to attract conferences and special events, further reinforcing the site’s role as a destination for both social and business gatherings.
With a targeted 2021 opening, The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad, represents a significant investment in Manhattan’s hospitality landscape and an expansion of Marriott’s luxury portfolio in a neighborhood known for its energetic mix of dining, shopping and distinctive architecture.
