Marriott International and Starwood Hotels have launched a joint double-points promotion across their loyalty programs. This marks the first coordinated offer that includes Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood SPG, allowing members of those programs to boost their earnings at participating properties.
Under the promotion, members can earn double points on their first three stays with Starwood SPG and double points on their first three stays with either Marriott Rewards or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards. After the initial three stays with each program, further bonus opportunities become available for additional qualifying stays at participating hotels.
Marriott describes the offer as a unified promotion across the three programs, giving members the same opportunity to earn double points on their first three eligible stays at participating hotels in each program. The move follows the merger of Marriott International and Starwood Hotels & Resorts and is part of efforts to align benefits across the combined loyalty footprint.
The merger allowed the companies to link loyalty accounts, match elite status and provide point transfer options between programs. Marriott’s CEO Arne Sorenson emphasized that benefits from each program would be preserved during the integration process so members would not see their rewards diluted as the programs come together.
Members who hold accounts in both Starwood SPG and either Marriott Rewards or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards can potentially earn double points on up to six qualifying stays—three with SPG and three with Marriott or Ritz-Carlton—and then combine those points into a single balance once account linking and transfer options are in place.
To take advantage of the promotion, members must register by March 15, 2017, and complete their qualifying stays by April 15, 2017. As always, the offer applies only at participating hotels and is subject to the terms and conditions of each loyalty program, so members should confirm eligibility and any blackout dates directly with the program before booking.
