Longfellow Hotel has opened its doors in Portland, introducing a 48-room boutique property developed by Maine-based, family-owned Uncommon Hospitality. Designed by award-winning Post Company, the hotel represents the first independently operated, full-service hotel to debut in Portland in over twenty years.
“We’re thrilled to finally welcome guests to The Longfellow, a project that we’ve lovingly infused with Portland’s proud, independent spirit, and the entrepreneurial ethos of our surrounding neighborhood,” said Tony DeLois, co-founder and COO of Uncommon Hospitality.

Named for Portland-born poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the hotel’s design draws on New England character and local architectural traditions. Post Company incorporated elements that reflect Portland’s history and natural beauty while celebrating work by regional artists throughout the property.
“Our design for The Longfellow honors the city’s history and wild beauty, and also nods to the integrity of the surrounding buildings,” said Jou-Yie Chou, partner at Post Company. “The interiors feel familiar, yet impart a true sense of place by blending contemporary elements with traditional touches to evoke a modern timelessness. The design establishes a sequence of spaces that invites visitors in, while handsome details encourage them to linger and indulge.”

Dining at the Longfellow emphasizes local produce and thoughtful preparation. Twinflower Café serves breakfast and lunch with a vegetable-forward menu that highlights seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. In the lobby, Five of Clubs offers a European-inspired bar program featuring light plates for sharing, craft cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic options.
The hotel’s wellness offerings include Astraea, a modern spa with private infrared sauna rooms and curated massage and meditation experiences. Treatments feature products from award-winning VOYA, and the spa spaces are designed to provide restorative, personalized care.
Sustainability is a key focus at the Longfellow. The hotel provides complimentary Priority Bicycles for guests, EV charging stations and an electric luxury car service. It has eliminated single-use plastics and uses traditional metal keys instead of plastic keycards, all part of a broader effort to reduce environmental impact while offering generous guest amenities.
Located in a neighborhood that values independent businesses and creative energy, the Longfellow Hotel aims to be both a comfortable retreat and a community-minded destination. Its combination of considered design, local culinary offerings, wellness facilities and sustainable operations positions the property as a contemporary expression of Portland’s character.
