L’Ermitage Beverly Hills: Luxury Hotel Guide & Stay Tips

Arrival/Check-In: L’Ermitage is a discreet hideaway tucked just off Burton Way in Beverly Hills, easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Formerly owned by the Raffles Group, the property has been managed by the Viceroy Hotel Group since 2010. Plans to rebrand it as the Viceroy Beverly Hills have not yet come to fruition. During my arrival the downtown Los Angeles area was experiencing nearly 100-degree heat. The front door and bell staff were attentive and apologetic for a brief delay; I assured them it was no problem. My car was promptly taken, and I was escorted to the front desk. The property could benefit from a ramp at the entry to ease wheeled luggage over the steps, which currently makes pulling a roller bag awkward. Brandon handled my check-in efficiently and offered a tour of my suite, which I accepted.

Guest Quarters: My suite featured light wood floors and coordinated built-ins, creating a bright, calm atmosphere. Immediately to the right of the entrance was a powder room and a compact kitchenette—handy for short stays. The kitchenette was well stocked with plates and glassware but lacked a coffeemaker, which felt like an odd omission for an upscale hotel.

The living area was spacious and set up for both work and relaxation. A desk sat at one end of the room; initially the chair faced away from the TV, so I repositioned it for a more practical layout. Plush seating included a large sofa, overstuffed chairs and a substantial coffee table. A sideboard along the back wall offered a well-curated cocktail setup with half-bottles of popular spirits—a signature Viceroy touch.

The bedroom was generous in size and fitted with a California king bed on a low platform, giving a subtle Asian-inspired feel to the décor. The room featured a modern lighting system with a master switch by the bedside, making it easy to adjust the ambiance. Comfort was not an issue; the bed and linens were excellent.

Behind the headboard a small corridor led to a large closet and the master bathroom. The bathroom included a soaking tub, a separate glass-enclosed shower, a commode, a bidet and a double sink vanity. High-quality amenities from Acqua di Parma, plentiful towels and thoughtful extras like cotton swabs contributed to a polished bathroom experience.

On arrival the suite felt uncomfortably warm and initial temperature adjustments did not cool it quickly. I went downstairs for a drink, and Tatum at the bar quickly resolved the climate control issue and arranged a hotel car to take me to a nearby restaurant—efficient, friendly service.

Services/Amenities: I cut my stay short and missed dinner at the hotel restaurant, Livello, but enjoyed cocktails at the bar and breakfast outdoors before the day heated up, seated near a soothing cascading water feature. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed.

The front desk and concierge team, especially Christine, were outstanding. They handled a range of requests—shipping arrangements, boarding passes and an early checkout—with professionalism and ease.

Two areas for improvement: complimentary in-room WiFi should be standard at this level, and the in-room lighting was inadequate for a full evening of work. I spent a night working in the suite and found the lighting insufficient for extended productivity.

The rooftop pool is a highlight—spacious and ideal for cooling off on hot Los Angeles days. The location has a lively reputation and has even been used for film shoots; its relaxed atmosphere makes it a popular spot for guests.

The Experience: L’Ermitage remains a favorite for its understated luxury and relaxed vibe. It avoids much of the contrived glamour often found elsewhere in Beverly Hills and feels like a genuine place to unwind. The lounge and bar are inviting, staff service is thoughtful, and the overall ambiance suits travelers seeking a calm, refined stay.
