Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has added two new luxury boutique properties to its portfolio: The Buchanan Hotel in San Francisco and The Taconic Hotel in Manchester, Vermont. These openings bring the brand’s U.S. total to 68 properties, following recent debuts in Savannah, Sedona, Palm Beach and Huntington Beach over the past year.
Situated in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights and historic Japantown neighborhoods, The Buchanan blends Japanese-inspired design with a residential boutique feel. The hotel centers on a private courtyard, a Whiskey Lounge–inspired lobby and generously sized guestrooms. Subtle cultural touches are woven throughout the property: guests receive a lightweight Shibori-print kimono-style robe, and the hotel’s version of the signature Kimpton Hosted Wine Hour features sake tastings alongside other selections.
The Taconic Hotel, located in Manchester at the edge of Bennington County and beneath the Taconic Mountains, is an 87-room retreat scheduled to open this fall. Many rooms and three standalone cottages will offer sweeping views of the Taconic and Green mountain ranges. Amenities are designed to highlight Vermont’s regional character, including a 110-seat tavern serving American fare rooted in local traditions, spacious wrap-around porches and extensive meeting and event facilities. The property will feature a 2,600-square-foot ballroom and an elegant outdoor venue suitable for gatherings and celebrations.
Both hotels emphasize thoughtful design, local culture and comfortable, boutique-style service—hallmarks of the Kimpton brand—while offering distinct guest experiences tailored to their neighborhoods: one reflecting San Francisco’s Japantown heritage and urban residential charm, the other embracing Vermont’s mountain scenery and regional hospitality.
