JFK Airport Unveils Major Upgrade Plans for Terminal 4

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK International Air Terminal have announced the next phase of Terminal 4’s expansion at John F. Kennedy International Airport. This $175 million project adds 11 gates and 75,000 square feet to Terminal 4’s Concourse B and continues Delta’s long-term investment to enhance and expand the terminal.

“The newest enhancements at Terminal 4 underscore the significant investment Delta is making in New York City’s airports — nearly $2 billion over the last six years,” said Ed Bastian, president of Delta Air Lines. “Our customers and employees are benefitting from substantial improvements to our JFK operations, and we thank our partners at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFKIAT for working with Delta to create a world-class facility that meets — and, we believe, exceeds — the expectations of today’s modern travelers.”

As part of this expansion, Delta will relocate the majority of its Delta Connection flights at JFK from Terminal 2 to the enlarged Concourse B in Terminal 4. This change is designed to streamline connections for passengers, reduce transfer times between flights, and improve access to the broader array of amenities available in Terminal 4.

The newly added gates will include enclosed jet bridges and place passengers close to a flagship Delta Sky Club and several chef-driven dining options. By situating additional premium and dining facilities near the gates, the expansion aims to elevate the preflight and connection experience for both domestic and international travelers.

To improve intra-terminal mobility, the project adds a new JFK Jitney bus stop at the end of Concourse B, adjacent to the new gates. This stop will complement existing jitney locations at gate B18 at the base of Concourse B in Terminal 4 and at gate C60 in Terminal 2, making transfers between terminals faster and more convenient.

Beyond gate and connection improvements, the Terminal 4 expansion supports operational efficiency and passenger comfort. The additional square footage and gates will help accommodate growing passenger volumes and provide more flexible scheduling options for carriers operating at JFK. For travelers, the larger concourse and added amenities mean a more comfortable wait, easier access to lounges and dining, and improved wayfinding through the terminal.

In sum, the $175 million expansion at Terminal 4 represents a continued commitment by Delta, the Port Authority, and JFKIAT to modernize JFK Airport infrastructure. By concentrating more Delta Connection flights at Concourse B and enhancing on-site services — including enclosed boarding bridges, a nearby Sky Club and upgraded dining — the project seeks to deliver a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience for passengers connecting through or departing from New York’s busiest international gateway.
