JetBlue Airways and Qatar Airways are preparing a one-way codeshare agreement that would link their networks through New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The arrangement remains subject to government approval. The carriers first began cooperating with an interline partnership in 2011.
Under the proposed codeshare, JetBlue customers would be able to book itineraries that include Qatar Airways’ connecting services to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. Conversely, passengers flying with Qatar Airways would gain easier access to JetBlue’s domestic U.S. network, expanding options for travel within the United States.
“We are delighted to further expand our partnership with JetBlue, an airline that focuses on quality and service, a key hallmark of Qatar Airways,” said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways.
The agreement aims to create smoother connections and greater route flexibility for travelers on both airlines. By combining JetBlue’s strong presence at major U.S. gateways with Qatar Airways’ long-haul network, the carriers could simplify booking and baggage transfers for customers making international connections through JFK and IAD.
For JetBlue, the codeshare presents an opportunity to offer passengers streamlined access to global destinations served by Qatar Airways in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific, without requiring customers to arrange separate tickets. For Qatar Airways, the partnership would enhance connectivity to a broader set of U.S. cities through JetBlue’s regional and transcontinental routes.
Both airlines emphasize a focus on service and convenience, and they expect the codeshare to complement their existing collaboration. If approved, the agreement would build on more than a decade of cooperation since the two carriers established interline ties in 2011, reflecting a mutual interest in improving travel options for passengers across international and domestic legs.
Regulatory review remains the next step in the process. Final implementation will depend on obtaining necessary government approvals and resolving operational details such as schedule coordination, ticketing integration, and baggage handling procedures. Until that approval is received, travelers should watch for updates from both airlines regarding the scope and timing of the codeshare rollout.
