The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo has launched a new spring program called “Let’s Talk Art!” designed for English speakers who want to explore 20th-century Japanese art. Guided by a facilitator, small groups examine selected works from the museum’s MOMAT Collection and engage in open conversation. Each session adapts to the interests of its participants, encouraging questions and shared observations.
Located near the Imperial Palace and known as Japan’s first national art museum in that area, MOMAT aims to welcome more international visitors and foster dialogue among people with varied cultural backgrounds and perspectives. The MOMAT Collection highlights around 200 key works drawn from the museum’s larger holdings of more than 13,000 pieces.
In addition to “Let’s Talk Art!”, the museum provides other English-language resources, including an app guide, audio guides and English signage throughout the galleries to help visitors navigate the collection and deepen their understanding.
Sessions of “Let’s Talk Art!” are limited to six participants, are open to anyone aged 11 and older, and are scheduled on Friday evenings. This format is intended to keep groups small and conversational while making the museum’s modern Japanese art more accessible to English-speaking visitors.
