London-based architectural firm Foster + Partners has unveiled the design for TEMPO Hotel and Residences, a new development planned for the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. Sitting above Praia Brava, a popular surf beach framed by dramatic mountains, the project is being developed by MUZE real estate development group, whose goal is to create enduring, artful spaces that enhance everyday living.

“The TEMPO hotel and residences capture the spirit of this vibrant coastal location,” said David Summerfield, head of Studio at Foster + Partners. “Nature is woven through every part of the development, which will take residents and guests on a truly spectacular journey from the beach to their whole-floor residences and private suites.”
At the heart of the scheme is a landscaped central garden designed to feel like a natural extension of the beachfront. Winding trails, shaded pavilions, water features and pools will create a layered, tranquil environment. All buildings are oriented toward this garden, providing a private green core for relaxation and improving wellbeing for both guests and residents. Shaded drop-off zones on either side of the site will mirror the garden’s planting, reinforcing a cohesive landscape experience across the development.

The arrival sequence is designed to feel both luxurious and intimate: a private drop-off offers immediate views into the central garden and leads directly into a striking hotel lobby and restaurant. A sunken outdoor seating area further blurs the boundary between interior and landscape, encouraging guests to linger and connect with the surroundings.
Hotel suites are planned with private terraces, each rotated to frame direct ocean views and fitted with sliding timber screens for adjustable privacy and shade. A rooftop infinity pool wraps around its deck to provide panoramic views of the coastline and mountains. Residential buildings are conceived as low-density blocks with whole-floor homes on every level, each benefiting from its own private garden and clear visual connections to the central landscape.
Materiality is intended to reflect the warmth and character of the local environment, with high-quality concrete and timber used throughout to produce a refined, natural aesthetic. These materials aim to age gracefully while maintaining a strong connection to the place and its coastal setting.

Construction timelines indicate the hotel is expected to open in 2028 or 2029, delivering a new coastal destination that combines thoughtful design, generous landscaping and uninterrupted views of Praia Brava and the surrounding mountains.
