Iberia Adds New A350 Routes: Expanded Long-Haul Network

Iberia is expanding its transatlantic network across both North and South America, increasing frequencies and deploying its new Airbus A350 on select long-haul sectors to offer improved capacity and comfort.

From July, the carrier will add capacity on several South American routes. Daily services will operate to Montevideo (MVD), Quito (UIO) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG). During July and August, Iberia plans to operate 10 weekly flights to Lima, responding to peak summer travel demand. These summer increases build on additional winter services introduced recently to Buenos Aires (EZE), Mexico City (MEX), Santiago de Chile (SCL), Guatemala City (GUA) and San Salvador (SAL).

On April 12, Iberia resumes its seasonal Madrid (MAD)–San Francisco (SFO) connection. The service will run three times weekly—Monday, Wednesday and Friday—through Sept. 27, using a mix of Airbus A330 and A320 family aircraft on that route to balance capacity and frequency for travelers between Spain and the U.S. West Coast.

The airline is also introducing its Airbus A350 on transatlantic routes where long-range performance and passenger comfort make a difference. The A350 is scheduled for the Buenos Aires–Chicago (ORD) sector and will serve Iberia’s daily flights between Spain and Argentina. Chicago becomes the second U.S. city, after New York, to receive Iberia’s A350 equipment, reflecting the carrier’s focus on upgrading its long-haul fleet and improving the onboard experience.

These network enhancements reflect Iberia’s strategy to match seasonal demand while modernizing its fleet. Deploying the A350 brings benefits such as increased fuel efficiency, lower emissions per seat and a quieter cabin, along with updated in-flight amenities that improve the passenger journey on longer sectors. Increasing daily frequencies to major South American hubs provides greater flexibility for travelers and better connectivity for both leisure and business traffic.

Passengers traveling on the boosted routes can expect a mix of aircraft types depending on route length and capacity needs, with the A350 and A330 serving the longest sectors and smaller A320-family aircraft used where appropriate. Iberia’s timetable adjustments aim to offer convenient schedules for connections through its Madrid hub, supporting onward travel across Europe and beyond.

Overall, the capacity increases and summer frequency adjustments highlight Iberia’s commitment to strengthening links between Europe and the Americas while rolling out its newest widebody aircraft to key transatlantic markets.
