COMO Hotels and Resorts has broadened its portfolio by entering the expedition cruise market with the launch of COMO Journey: Into the Arctic. Departing July 30, this 11-day voyage takes guests to the remote Svalbard Archipelago in the High Arctic, offering immersive wildlife encounters, dramatic polar landscapes, and COMO’s characteristic wellness and culinary experiences.

Developed in partnership with Natural World Safaris, the itinerary blends expert-led exploration with intimate, small-ship cruising. The route focuses on one of the planet’s least accessible regions, guiding guests through a mix of fjords, glaciated shorelines and snow-dusted islands. Along the way, expedition activities will be supported by specialists who provide natural history briefings and contextual insight into the fragile Arctic environment.
Daily plans are flexible to take advantage of prevailing conditions and wildlife opportunities. Off-ship excursions use Zodiacs for close-up viewing of coastal scenes and marine life, while shore landings allow guests to experience Arctic terrain and wildlife at close range. The expedition team is headed by specialist leader Andy Mann, whose background in polar guiding ensures informed interpretation and safe operations during on-water and on-ice activities.

Wildlife highlights include potential sightings of Arctic foxes on coastal tundra, the distinctive Svalbard reindeer, hauled-out walrus lounging on ice floes and shorelines, and a variety of cetaceans that visit Arctic waters. Guests should expect an emphasis on respectful wildlife viewing, with guidance from the expedition team to minimize disturbance and enhance the chances of meaningful encounters.
The experience begins with an overnight stay in Longyearbyen, the main settlement on Svalbard, where visitors can enjoy the town’s compact cultural offerings and polar heritage before embarking. Boarding takes place aboard the M/S Polarfront, a vessel with a history as a Norwegian weather ship that has since been refitted for Arctic expedition cruising. The ship accommodates a small number of guests in eight suites designed to maximize natural light through large portholes and to provide private en-suite facilities.
On board, guests can relax in a sauna and hot tub after active days ashore and on the water, and take advantage of wellness treatments provided by an on-board therapist. COMO’s wellness philosophy, COMO Shambhala, is woven into the voyage, offering restorative therapies geared to help guests recover from cold-weather days and maintain balance during travel. Dining aboard the Polarfront showcases the brand’s East-West fusion approach, with menus that emphasize fresh, seasonal ingredients adapted to the ship’s operational context in the Arctic.
Practical considerations for prospective travelers include the expedition’s small-group format and the variable Arctic climate. The cruise is tailored to guests who seek experiential travel and who are comfortable with the logistical realities of polar expeditions: flexible itineraries, active shore and Zodiac excursions, and wildlife viewing that depends on seasonal patterns and weather. Safety, environmental stewardship and expert guidance underpin the program, reflecting both COMO’s hospitality standards and Natural World Safaris’ expedition experience.
By launching COMO Journey: Into the Arctic, COMO Hotels and Resorts extends its signature blend of luxury service, wellbeing and culinary care into a remote, nature-focused format. The voyage promises a combination of expert-led discovery, intimate shipboard comfort and access to some of the Arctic’s most striking landscapes and wildlife, offering an alternative for travelers who want refined hospitality alongside authentic polar adventure.
