Historic Frankfurt Mansion Transformed into Luxury Urban Retreat

Planning a trip to Frankfurt, Germany? THE FLORENTIN by Althoff Collection offers an elegant urban retreat that blends historic charm with refined luxury. Originally built as Villa Speyer by architect Alfred Günther for the Beit von Speyer family, the mansion has been carefully restored to highlight its original Art Nouveau features—detailed wood paneling, coffered ceilings, tiled fireplaces and ornate doorways—while incorporating contemporary design by Swiss studio atelier zürich in collaboration with Singapore-based Unscripted.

The property combines the fully restored mansion and a sensitively renovated extension connected by a leafy inner courtyard. Guests have access to a series of historic salons and event spaces, including an Entrance Hall with a mezzanine gallery and a Frankfurt-style kitchen. Additional communal areas include the Blue Salon, Green Salon, Winter Garden, Wine Lounge, Wine Tasting Room and the Ladies’ Withdrawing Room—each crafted to evoke the building’s past while functioning for modern gatherings.

There are nine Signature Suites, each designed with its own distinct character and references to local history and the Beit von Speyer legacy. The Explorer, The Botanist, The Poet, The Philosopher, The Tea Master, The Jazz Musician, The Artist, The Composer and the Royal Suite all feature generous living spaces finished in brushed, white-oiled Austrian oak, hand-knotted rugs and bathrooms clad in Portuguese marble. Sleeping comfort is prioritized with 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton Rivolta Carmignani bedding. Most suites include separate living and sleeping areas to enhance the feeling of a private residence.

“For us, The Villa is more than just history. It is a place with character and legend — one that we have consciously brought into the present day,” said Boris Messmer, general manager of THE FLORENTIN. “Our goal was to preserve the historic fabric while creating modern spaces that honor and connect to the past; these environments work seamlessly today for guests who value privacy, gracious hospitality and the highest standards of quality.”
