Hawaiian Airlines Starts Longest Domestic Flight in the U.S.

A new Hawaiian Airlines nonstop between Boston (BOS) and Honolulu (HNL) is now the longest regularly scheduled domestic route in the United States.

Previously, travelers from Boston bound for Hawai‘i typically had to connect on the West Coast. The direct service covers approximately 5,095 miles and launched on April 5, 2019, operating five times weekly between Boston and Honolulu.

“This route will provide travelers from Hawaii direct access to all that the Commonwealth has to offer, including our nation-leading innovation economy, while also making travel for New England residents to Hawaii easier,” said Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker.

On average, Hawai‘i receives about 60,000 visitors from the Boston area each year, and the new nonstop is expected to support roughly $76 million in route revenues. Hawaiian Airlines operates the flight with an Airbus A330 configured with 18 first-class lie-flat seats. The cabin layout is designed to suit leisure travelers—couples, families and honeymooners—while still offering amenities and functionality for business passengers.

For travelers, the nonstop option reduces total travel time and eliminates the inconvenience of a West Coast connection, making Hawai‘i more accessible for shorter trips and long weekends. The A330’s onboard features—spacious seating in premium cabins and a selection of in-flight entertainment and dining options—aim to enhance the long-haul flying experience across this transcontinental route.

Airlines and airports often consider nonstop links like this one important economically as well as logistically. Direct flights can boost tourism, strengthen business ties, and improve connectivity for residents on both ends of the route. For New England, increased nonstop service to Hawai‘i presents opportunities for leisure travel growth and expanded access to the islands’ tourism market, while also offering local businesses easier connections to partners and events in the Pacific region.

Passengers planning to use the service should check the airline’s schedule and seat configuration when booking, as equipment and frequency can change seasonally. Travelers seeking greater comfort on the long flight can choose from the lie-flat first-class seats, while economy and other cabin options remain available to meet different budgets and travel needs.

Overall, the Boston–Honolulu nonstop represents a notable expansion of domestic long-haul service, providing a direct link between New England and Hawai‘i that benefits tourists, business travelers, and the broader regional economies on both sides of the route.
