Hawaiian Airlines Plans New Direct Flights Between Hawaii and Japan

Pending final government approval, Hawaiian Airlines plans to relaunch non-stop service between Fukuoka, Japan (FUK), and Honolulu, Hawai‘i (HNL) beginning in November.

Fukuoka Prefecture and the state of Hawai‘i have a long-standing sister-state relationship and close cultural and economic ties. Hawaiian Airlines previously operated the route from 2012 to 2014 and is now responding to renewed demand from travelers in Kyushu and beyond.

The route will be flown with an Airbus A330 configured to serve a range of passenger needs: 18 lie-flat Premium Cabin leather seats in a 2-2-2 layout, 68 Extra Comfort seats, and 192 economy-class seats.

“We are eager to bring travelers in Fukuoka and throughout Kyushu our warm Hawaiian hospitality along with the convenience of non-stop flights to Hawai‘i,” said Theo Panagiotoulias, senior vice president for global sales and alliances at Hawaiian Airlines. “Japan is a special place to Hawai‘i and to Hawaiian Airlines, and we are excited to make both island chains more accessible for our guests.”

Masanori Hashimoto, director general of the Airport Planning Bureau for Fukuoka Prefectural Government, emphasized the importance of the connection: “Fukuoka Prefecture and the state of Hawai‘i have been sister states since 1981 and have built exchanges across tourism, culture, and the economy. We are pleased service to Hawai‘i will continue without interruption. Hawaiian’s new route will support our ongoing exchange relationship and the opportunities for travel and cultural exchange that benefit both regions.”

The reinstated non-stop service adds air connectivity between Kyushu and Hawai‘i, offering travelers a direct option that shortens travel time and strengthens ties between the two regions. With a mix of lie-flat premium seating, extra-legroom options, and standard economy, the A330 will accommodate leisure travelers, family visits, and business travelers alike.

Hawaiian Airlines’ announcement reflects broader interest in restoring and expanding international links as travel demand recovers. Final schedules, frequencies, and government approvals are pending; interested passengers should monitor airline communications for booking details and official launch dates.
