Hainan Airlines Launches New Nonstop Flights to Las Vegas

China-based Hainan Airlines will begin operating three weekly flights between Beijing (PEK) and Las Vegas (LAS), launching a direct connection between the two cities. The airline announced plans earlier this year and received final regulatory approval last month, paving the way for the new service.

Service on the Beijing–Las Vegas route is scheduled to start on Dec. 2 and will be operated using Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The modern, long-range 787s were chosen to ensure passenger comfort on the transpacific journey and to provide the range and efficiency needed for nonstop service.

This route represents a milestone for Las Vegas McCarran International Airport: it will be the first regularly scheduled nonstop flight from mainland China. McCarran already serves Asia with other nonstop routes, such as Korean Air’s service to the Seoul area, but the Hainan Airlines link to Beijing opens a new market directly to mainland China.

China has become one of the fastest-growing sources of visitors to Las Vegas, driving demand for direct air links between the two regions. Both tourism and business travel from China have expanded rapidly in recent years, encouraging airlines and airports to add nonstop options that reduce travel time and simplify connections.

“The growth opportunity is enormous,” said Bethany Drysdale, spokeswoman for the Nevada Tourism Board. She noted that direct flights from China are valuable not only for Las Vegas but also for the wider state, since Las Vegas functions as a primary gateway for visitors traveling to other destinations in Nevada.

Hainan Airlines has been steadily expanding its international network, adding other nonstop services between Beijing and U.S. cities in recent years. The carrier already operates routes linking Beijing with Boston (BOS), Seattle (SEA) and San Jose, Calif. (SJC), reflecting its broader strategy to increase transpacific connectivity and capture growing demand for travel between China and the United States.

The new Beijing–Las Vegas service is expected to benefit multiple stakeholders: travelers will gain a direct option that reduces total travel time and avoids additional connections; Las Vegas-area tourism businesses will have improved access to a valuable and growing market; and Hainan Airlines will strengthen its U.S. route portfolio with another major leisure and entertainment destination.

For travelers, nonstop flights mean fewer scheduling uncertainties and a more seamless experience when planning trips to Las Vegas for leisure, conventions, and other events. The Hainan Airlines 787s will offer a full range of cabin classes and onboard amenities designed for long-haul comfort, making the Beijing–Las Vegas link an attractive choice for both leisure travelers and those visiting for business.

As direct air service between China and Las Vegas begins, airport facilities and local tourism partners are likely to coordinate additional services aimed at Chinese visitors, such as language assistance, culturally familiar dining options, and promotional packages tailored to the market. Over time, the new route could help spur further investments in infrastructure and visitor services across the Las Vegas area and the state of Nevada.

Overall, the introduction of three weekly nonstop flights between Beijing and Las Vegas reflects growing bilateral travel demand and the strategic importance of direct transpacific connections. With the first flight set to depart Dec. 2, travelers and local businesses alike will soon gauge the impact of this new link on visitation patterns and the broader regional economy.
