Starting this month, Greater Toronto Airways has launched daily flights between Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport and the Niagara District Airport in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The scheduled flight time is remarkably short — about 12 minutes in the air — offering a fast, convenient option for travelers compared with the previous choices of roughly a one-hour drive (without traffic) or a 90-minute ViaRail trip.
While the airline’s website lists the flight as 15 minutes, David Nissan, vice president of operations at Greater Toronto Airways, states the actual flying time is closer to 12 minutes. “We’re trying to provide a more convenient service for people,” Nissan said, noting the clear time savings compared with ground travel.
Service began on Sept. 15 and tickets are available through the Greater Toronto Airways website. One-way fares are priced at CAN $85, while round-trip tickets cost $159. The flights operate year-round, Monday through Friday, on an eight-seat aircraft. Each airport is served twice daily: departures from Toronto are scheduled at 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and departures from Niagara District are at 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
This route is aimed at travelers seeking speed and convenience for short-haul trips between Toronto and the Niagara-on-the-Lake region. With twice-daily departures, the service can accommodate business commuters and leisure travelers who prefer to minimize travel time. The aircraft’s small size and frequent schedule also make it an attractive choice for those who value quick check-in and boarding processes compared with larger airports.
Passengers considering the flight should review the airline’s booking page for the latest fare availability and any operational updates. As with all short regional flights, travelers should allow adequate time for airport procedures despite the brief airborne time.
