Glasgow Airport Adds New Passenger Drop-Off Charge

From April, Glasgow Airport will introduce a drop-off fee for drivers delivering passengers to the terminal. The move follows similar measures already in place at Scotland’s other major airports, including Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The charge will be $2.50 for stays of up to 10 minutes. Blue Badge holders will be exempt. Work is already under way to create a new pick-up and drop-off zone that will be located on the opposite side of the terminal.

“Alongside tackling congestion, the new fee will help us manage the large increase in vehicles using our road network,” said Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport. “We have resisted introducing a drop-off charge for some time, as most airports of our size have operated similar arrangements for years. Having explored all other options, a chargeable facility is now the only practical way to reduce congestion, discourage non-airport traffic and make better use of our roadway space.”

The airport will continue to offer a free drop-off option for passengers who park in the short-stay car park and use the shuttle buses that connect to the terminal.

Edinburgh Airport increased its drop-off charge in 2014, and Aberdeen introduced a similar fee in 2015.
