The Omni Grove Park Inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, N.C., is hosting the 23rd National Gingerbread House Competition on Nov. 16. As the largest event of its kind in the United States, the competition will display and judge edible creations from culinary artists based on overall appearance, originality and creativity, level of difficulty, precision, and consistency of theme. All entries must be constructed from edible ingredients, with at least 75 percent of each structure made from gingerbread. Judges will include prominent artists and internationally recognized pastry chefs. The inn’s festive ambiance—crackling fireplaces, 80 themed Christmas trees, and countless twinkling lights—adds to the magic of the event.
Visitors can extend the experience by booking the Gingerbread Holiday package, available Nov. 15–Dec. 29. Rates start at $308 per night and include deluxe accommodations, the Art of Breakfast Buffet in the Blue Ridge Restaurant, and overnight valet or garage parking. Each guest also receives a gingerbread cookie as a seasonal welcome. The resort recently completed a $25 million renovation, preserving original Arts & Crafts furnishings throughout its 513 guestrooms.
Recreational amenities at the Omni Grove Park Inn cater to a variety of interests. The spa spans 43,000 square feet and features treatments inspired by local, indigenous elements. The Sports Complex includes indoor and outdoor tennis courts, while golf enthusiasts can enjoy the resort’s historic 18-hole Donald Ross course. For meetings and events, the inn offers two ballrooms and 25 meeting rooms, making it suitable for conferences, weddings, and other gatherings.
The National Gingerbread House Competition highlights creativity and technical skill across multiple categories, attracting competitors and visitors who appreciate culinary artistry. The event not only showcases elaborate edible structures but also reinforces the inn’s role as a holiday destination in the region, combining seasonal programming with full-service resort amenities.
