Europe has a new budget carrier offering affordable routes to the Caribbean. French travel group Groupe Dubreuil has announced a low-cost airline named French Blue that will start service from Paris Orly Airport to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic later this year, with plans to add additional Caribbean destinations over time.
French Blue will be France’s first low-cost, long-haul airline, joining other European budget long-haul operators such as Norwegian Air and WOW Air. The airline’s fares will be designed to be significantly lower than legacy carriers while still including basic amenities: meals and one checked bag will be part of the standard fare, and passengers can opt to pay extra for WiFi available throughout the cabin.
The carrier plans to operate long-haul routes with Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft, modern widebody jets suited for transatlantic service. With those aircraft, French Blue aims to combine competitive pricing with reliable, comfortable flights on longer sectors.
Beyond its initial Paris–Punta Cana route, French Blue has indicated ambitions to expand its network during the following year. Possible future destinations under consideration include long-haul leisure markets such as Mauritius and Réunion in the Indian Ocean, as the airline looks to serve holiday travelers seeking lower-cost options to sun-and-beach destinations.
The launch of French Blue reflects a broader trend in which European airlines deploy low-cost business models on long-haul and leisure routes, responding to strong demand for lower fares on international travel without sacrificing essential services. By including at least one checked bag and onboard meals in the base price, French Blue is positioning itself to appeal to value-oriented travelers who want a straightforward, all-included experience for transatlantic leisure trips.
As French Blue prepares to begin operations, travelers can expect more competition on Paris–Caribbean routes and potentially lower prices across the market. The use of modern Airbus widebodies and the carrier’s focus on leisure destinations suggest an emphasis on efficient operations and a targeted network strategy aimed at holidaymakers departing from Paris Orly.
