Frankfurt Airport Opens New Rooftop Terrace for Travelers

Frankfurt Airport has opened a new rooftop terrace, the Open Air Deck, located inside the transit zone of Terminal 1. This 138-square-meter outdoor area is available daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. for non-Schengen passengers and provides a relaxed space to wait between flights.

Constructed at a cost of €1.5 million, the terrace is designed for passenger comfort and enjoyment. It features comfortable seating and unobstructed views across the airfield, plus a free-to-use telescope for close-up plane spotting. Visitors can also find an information stand explaining apron operations and a display that shows the latest weather forecast supplied by the German Weather Service.

The airport highlights that the Open Air Deck brings fresh air and natural daylight—primarily from the south—helping travelers reduce the effects of jet lag and offering a pleasant break from the interior terminal environment.

This rooftop addition complements the existing Visitor’s Terrace in Terminal 2, which is publicly accessible on level 4 next to the Food Plaza, giving both transit and public visitors options for outdoor viewing and relaxation.
