Arrival / Check-in: I flew Aeroméxico from Los Angeles to Mexico City for a four-day business trip. My first visit to the city did not go as planned — I became ill shortly after arrival. I met a colleague and on the taxi ride to the Four Seasons the symptoms worsened. I checked in quickly, rushed to my room and tried to rest, but that night I developed a severe flu. Around midnight I called the concierge to ask if a doctor was available. Fortunately the Four Seasons provides a 24-hour medical service, which proved invaluable on this trip.
Guest Quarters: The hotel recently completed renovations that refresh both the exterior and the guest rooms. The lobby feels elegant and refined, and the rooms maintain that same tone. My deluxe room was about 602 square feet with a king bed, a full marble bathroom and a view of the garden courtyard. Upon entering, the bathroom was on the right and a closet on the left. The bed was comfortable, and during my illness it was the place I spent most of my time. High-quality pillows and soft bedding made rest much easier.
The room offered classic Four Seasons touches: a loveseat and coffee table, an executive desk with multiple outlets, and modern technology such as a large flat-screen television, fast wireless internet, an iPod dock and DVD/CD player. Practical amenities included an in-room safe, a refrigerated minibar, slippers and plush terry robes. The bathroom featured a deep soaking tub, a separate shower and a water closet.
Services & Amenities: The outdoor pool and sun deck are adjacent to the health club, which has a wide selection of cardio and weight equipment (hours vary). As a hotel geared toward business travelers, the property provides services to support busy schedules. The business center staffs bilingual assistants and offers five workstations (four PCs and one Mac), high-speed internet, printers, scanners, a fax and a copier. Two boardrooms, each equipped with a television, DVD player, internet connection and speakerphone, can be reserved through the business center.
We held a breakfast meeting at Reforma 500, which has seating indoors and in a well-maintained courtyard. We chose to sit outside; it was a bit cool, and the hotel kindly provided a shawl. The breakfast menu featured local specialties — I ordered chilaquiles, which were excellent.
The Experience: The on-call doctor arrived within 30 minutes, dressed professionally and carrying a traditional medical bag. He spoke English well, though I used some Spanish too. He treated me for the flu — I had a high fever — administering medication and prescribing antibiotics. The timely medical attention accelerated my recovery; by the third day I was attending meetings and enjoying parts of my short stay in the city.
The hotel staff were consistently attentive and supportive while I recovered. They checked in frequently and left a thoughtful note wishing me well. Their care made a difficult situation much more manageable.
I highly recommend the Four Seasons Mexico City to business and leisure travelers alike. The property delivers the upscale experience expected from the brand, and the on-site, around-the-clock medical service is a major advantage for guests who fall ill while traveling.
