Floating Book Club Launches in the Arctic: Join a Unique Polar Reading Community

Join a trio of bestselling authors aboard Adventure Canada’s Floating Book Club for a new Newfoundland and Wild Labrador expedition running July 5–17. Doug Gibson, Kathleen Winter and Terry Fallis will sail with passengers to discuss their books and share insights into their writing. Doug Gibson will also present a performance of his one‑man play, Stories About Storytellers.

This 13‑day voyage begins at the French island of Saint Pierre and follows the rugged Newfoundland coast, highlighting the region’s layered history: French settlements, Indigenous communities, Basque fishing sites and traces of Viking activity. The itinerary includes a stop in Labrador to visit Nunatsiavut, the Inuit homeland, as well as visits to Gros Morne National Park, Torngat Mountains National Park and historic Norse sites.

Travelers will retrace the paths of early explorers through dramatic coastal landscapes, with ample opportunities for wildlife viewing. Expect to encounter whales, seals and, in some areas, polar bears, while cruising fjords and approaching remote shorelines. Onboard author sessions and performances will complement the natural and cultural experiences ashore, offering an engaging blend of literature, history and wilderness.

Whether you’re drawn by the chance to meet acclaimed writers, explore rare cultural heritage or observe Arctic and subarctic wildlife, this expedition combines expert-led interpretation with comfortable small-ship cruising. The trip is designed for readers, nature lovers and anyone interested in the stories and places that shaped Newfoundland and Labrador.
