Festival of the Voice: Unforgettable Vocal Performances Across Genres

At the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice (July 29–Aug. 2), the expressive range of the human voice is showcased across opera, gospel, pop, folk, world music and Broadway. Nestled in the Catskills in Phoenicia, NY, the festival presents 23 events—workshops and performances of professional caliber—staged at seven distinct venues.

The program offers a wide variety of performances and learning opportunities. Audiences can experience concerts featuring Inuit music, barbershop harmony and Native American traditions, alongside theatrical productions such as Souvenir by Stephen Temperley. The festival will also host the world premiere workshop staging of Robert Manno’s Do Not Go Gentle — The Last Days of Dylan and Caitlin, and a Choral Magic presentation by the Cambridge Chamber Singers.

Instrumental and vocal collaborations add further diversity, including The Diva and The Fiddler, a pairing of soprano Diana Jacklin with violinist Hartmut Ometzberger. Hands-on offerings include a shape-note workshop designed to improve score-reading and singing skills. Musical theatre is represented with a production of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, rounding out a program that highlights both historical and contemporary vocal artistry.

With events across multiple venues and styles, the festival is designed to engage singers, listeners and curious newcomers alike—celebrating vocal technique, storytelling and cultural expression in an intimate, scenic setting.
