Visitors with extra time should not miss Chaplin’s World, an interactive museum in Vevey dedicated to Charlie Chaplin, located about 10 miles along the lakeshore from Lausanne, Switzerland. Set on the grounds of the actor’s final home, the site includes expansive gardens, Chaplin’s house and a museum filled with recreated film sets, sound-and-light presentations and vintage posters. The displays are designed to engage all ages, and even children unfamiliar with Chaplin often leave as enthusiastic fans.
Allow at least three hours to explore. If you have a car, drive around Vevey to see the city’s ongoing celebration of Chaplin, visible in giant frescoes on building exteriors and in a hotel themed after him, The Modern Times. The town’s Chaplin heritage is woven into public art and local attractions, creating a charming, walkable atmosphere.
Vevey also offers a strong culinary and cultural scene. The Alimentarium, a museum dedicated to the history of food, has recently reopened with interactive exhibits that appeal to visitors of all ages. Outside the museum a striking sculpture known as “Ze Fork” rises from the lake, creating a memorable lakeside photo spot.
Continuing the food theme, the Nest museum and factory celebrates Henri Nestlé and the origins of milk chocolate in this region. The site combines museum exhibits with tastings and demonstrations, making it an excellent stop for families and chocolate lovers. Together with Chaplin’s World and the Alimentarium, these attractions make Vevey a compact destination for culture, history and culinary discovery.
