Now a landmark luxury Boston address, The Liberty Hotel began life as the Charles Street Jail, featuring a soaring 90-foot rotunda and a cupola dating to 1851. Catwalks connect the lobby, reception area, ballroom, meeting rooms, restaurant, bar and select guestrooms, preserving the building’s distinctive circulation and historic character. Several original features were thoughtfully retained, including the granite façade, dramatic oversized windows and remnants of the jail cells that now form part of the lobby’s striking design.
An adjacent 16-story tower contains most of the hotel’s 300 guestrooms, while ten suites offer views of the Charles River. Rooms and public spaces combine contemporary finishes with a refined interpretation of American Colonial design, creating an atmosphere that feels both modern and rooted in history. Dining and drinking options on site include CLINK, Alibi, Catwalk and chef Lydia Shire’s Italian-inspired menu at Scampo, providing a variety of culinary experiences without leaving the property.
The Liberty Hotel also offers extensive meeting and event facilities: a high-tech ballroom and approximately 6,000 square feet of meeting rooms with abundant natural light support everything from conferences to intimate gatherings. Beyond the hotel, the Charles River Esplanade is a short walk away, and the neighborhood provides ample shopping, entertainment and outdoor recreation opportunities, making it an ideal base for both business and leisure travelers.
