EVA Air Takes Delivery of First Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

EVA Air recently took delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The new aircraft will begin service on the Hong Kong (HKG) route in early November.

The Dreamliner introduces EVA Air’s updated onboard experience, including the new Royal Laurel Class seats designed by Designworks, a BMW company. Economy-class seating has also been refreshed. The cabin features an improved air filtration system and enhanced humidity controls to reduce dryness, while redesigned engine housings help lower noise levels for a quieter, more comfortable flight.

“Our introduction of Boeing 787 Dreamliners gives us a younger and more efficient fleet and further upgrades our service quality,” said Steve Lin, chairman of EVA Airlines. “In addition to giving our passengers the comforts and conveniences of the Boeing Dreamliner’s advanced aviation technologies, we have made great efforts to enhance our cabin service.”

The 787-9 Dreamliner supports long-haul routes such as Taipei (TPE) to Vancouver (YVR) or Seattle (SEA) and Vienna (VIE). Each aircraft accommodates 304 passengers: 26 in Royal Laurel Class and 278 in economy. Built from lightweight composite materials and powered by modern engines, the Dreamliner family reduces fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions by about 20 percent, improving environmental efficiency.

EVA Air’s second Dreamliner is scheduled for delivery in November and will extend Dreamliner service to Tokyo. The airline plans to add 24 Dreamliners in total: two more slated for 2019 to expand regional Asian and Australian routes, and 20 787-10 aircraft expected for delivery between mid-2019 and 2022. These additions aim to modernize the fleet and expand EVA Air’s long-haul and regional offerings.
