Ethiopian Airlines has expanded its long-haul capacity with the addition of a Boeing 777-300ER to its fleet. Based at its hub in Addis Ababa (ADD), the new wide-body aircraft increases seat capacity on key international routes and complements the airline’s existing Boeing 777-200LR fleet.
The 777-300ER is configured in a two-class layout accommodating approximately 400 passengers. Its cabin features a higher ceiling, increased storage, a modern in-flight entertainment system and enhanced cargo capability, offering both passengers and freight customers greater comfort and flexibility. According to Mesfin Tassew, COO of Ethiopian Airlines, the jet will enhance the travel experience through its spacious interior and improved amenities.
The airline plans to deploy the 777-300ER on long-haul services to major destinations, including cities in the United States and China such as Washington (IAD) and Guangzhou (CAN). This addition supports Ethiopian Airlines’ network growth: the carrier currently serves 76 destinations across five continents and operates a fleet that includes around 50 Boeing aircraft.
Further expansion is planned. Ethiopian Airlines expects to receive three more 777-300ER aircraft, which will enable the launch of new routes and the strengthening of existing services across Africa and beyond. These deliveries will provide increased frequency and capacity on strategic international and regional corridors, improving connectivity for passengers and cargo operators alike.
As it integrates the new aircraft, Ethiopian will continue to balance passenger comfort and operational efficiency, maintaining its focus on expanding global reach while enhancing on-board service and cargo options. The 777-300ERs are a key element in the carrier’s broader fleet strategy to support growing demand on long-haul routes and to offer more travel choices from Addis Ababa.
