Emirates has announced it will expand services to Switzerland by introducing a daily Airbus A380 service to Zürich starting January 2014. The airline will replace the Boeing 777-300ER currently operating flights between Dubai (DXB) and Zürich (ZRH) on EK087 and EK088 with the A380 double-deck aircraft, increasing capacity by more than 1,100 seats each way per week.
The Airbus A380 used on the route will seat 517 passengers: 14 in First Class, 76 in Business Class and 427 in Economy. Emirates says the decision to deploy its flagship A380 to Zürich reflects the city’s strong role as a financial hub and home to many international companies, supporting growing demand for premium and high-capacity services. Thierry Antinori, Emirates’ Executive Vice President of Passenger Sales Worldwide, commented that the move is intended to better serve the market’s business and corporate travel needs.
Emirates will maintain a second daily service between Dubai and Zürich using the Boeing 777-300ER, ensuring a mix of options for travelers. With the introduction of the A380 on one of the daily frequencies, passengers can expect larger onboard facilities and increased seat availability while the airline continues to offer its existing 777-operated frequency to preserve schedule flexibility.
The deployment of the A380 to Zürich is part of Emirates’ broader strategy to match aircraft capacity with market demand, particularly on routes serving major financial centers. By adding more seats and the A380’s premium product to the route, the carrier aims to capture both corporate traffic and leisure demand during peak periods, while offering customers the choice of aircraft type and cabin experience.
Travelers flying between Dubai and Zürich will benefit from the A380’s increased space and amenities in all cabins, along with the operational continuity provided by the retained daily 777 service. Emirates’ move underscores the airline’s commitment to expanding high-capacity, long-haul connections to key European centers and adapting its fleet deployment to evolving passenger needs.
