Discover the New Caravaggio Experience at Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese

Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese now offers the Caravaggio Experience, a carefully curated program that immerses art lovers in the life and work of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, one of the most influential painters of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods.

Known for his dramatic use of light and shadow and his unflinching portrayals of human emotion, Caravaggio revolutionized painting in his era. The Caravaggio Experience guides guests through 18 of his major works with an expert guide, providing historical context, artistic analysis, and stories that illuminate the painter’s turbulent life.

Beyond viewing paintings, the program includes guided walks through the neighborhoods and sites in Rome frequented by Caravaggio, visits to prominent museums, and stops at churches that house both his celebrated and lesser-known works. These on-site visits allow guests to experience the artworks in their original architectural and liturgical settings, enhancing appreciation for the artist’s technique and subject matter.

The itinerary also offers unique, hands-on activities that evoke Caravaggio’s era, such as a session at a traditional fencing school. Participants learn elements of 17th-century swordplay under the supervision of a Master of Arms and receive instruction similar to that given to the trainer of actor Alessio Boni for the film Caravaggio.

The Caravaggio Experience is available as part of a four-night package starting at €950 per night. The rate includes accommodations and the two-day Caravaggio tour. For reservations or more information, guests may contact the hotel by email at [email protected].
