Last weekend I visited the Delta Hotels Virginia Beach Bayfront Suites by Marriott, which completed a two-year renovation and reopened in March. The parking lot was busy with travelers when I arrived, and that first impression suggested this property is a popular choice for visitors to the area.
We checked in with a friendly concierge who directed us to a top-floor suite accessible by a single elevator. Opening the door, we were impressed by the size and layout: an entry living room, a bathroom and closet, and a spacious bedroom with sweeping views of the Chesapeake Bay shoreline. The room’s palette echoed the water and sand outside the window, and the bed was plush and comfortable—exactly what I wanted after a long drive.

Because we arrived later than planned, we picked up takeout from a nearby Italian restaurant and enjoyed a few samples from a California wine tasting pack. Relaxing on the L-shaped couch with a glass in hand was the ideal end to a long day on the road.
I woke early—around 5:30 a.m.—to watch the sunrise over the bay. From our room the shore, dunes and horizon were striking; the sky unfolded from deep purple to shades of orange, hot pink and pale yellow as the sun emerged. Sipping coffee while watching that sunrise felt essential for anyone staying in a water-facing room.
After sunrise I returned to the room to work at the large bedroom desk. The chair was roomy and comfortable, which made it easy to settle in and type until 10 a.m., when I met Melodie, the group sales manager, for a property tour. She showed me a range of conference rooms suited to different group sizes and a welcoming second-level sitting area with a Starbucks counter, beer on tap and a large fireplace—an inviting spot for meetings, remote work or casual conversation. We also toured Tin Cup Kitchen + Oyster Bar and the hotel’s sizable event space, which would be well suited for a beachside wedding.
We spent the rest of the day enjoying the heated pool, ordering drinks from the poolside bar window, and having dinner at the hotel restaurant. The Delta Hotel felt peaceful and well designed to showcase the best of the Chesapeake Bay experience—comfortable rooms, ocean views, flexible event spaces and convivial social areas that appeal to both leisure and business travelers.
