Switzerland-based Darwin Airline has opened a new base at Cambridge Airport (CBG) in England, launching scheduled routes to four international destinations. Beginning September 2, the airline — headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland, with an additional base in Geneva — will operate 50 weekly flights to and from Cambridge, connecting the city with Amsterdam (AMS), Paris (CDG), Milan (MXP) and Geneva (GVA).
Service frequency from the Cambridge base is planned as follows: 24 weekly flights to Amsterdam, 12 weekly flights to Paris, eight weekly flights to Milan and six weekly flights to Geneva. The new operation will increase options for both business and leisure travelers in the region and strengthen Darwin Airline’s footprint in the United Kingdom market.
“As we expand within Europe, the U.K. is a key market for us to further establish and we are delighted to open our new base in the heart of East England,” said Maurizio Merlo, CEO of Darwin Airline. He noted that Cambridge’s dynamic economy and concentration of business and research activity make it an ideal location for the carrier’s expanded services.
Cambridge Airport, located close to the city center, recently underwent renovations that include a new business lounge and complimentary WiFi, improving the passenger experience for frequent flyers and occasional travelers alike. The addition of Darwin Airline’s scheduled routes is expected to boost connectivity for the region, providing direct links to major European hubs for both onward travel and direct business links.
The launch reflects Darwin Airline’s broader growth strategy across Europe, aiming to add regional routes that serve market demand while offering frequent schedules tailored to business and leisure travelers. By positioning Cambridge as a base of operations, the airline seeks to capitalize on local demand and the area’s strong economic profile.
Passengers traveling from Cambridge can expect multiple daily options to key destinations, with services designed to align with business hours and popular travel times. The new routes should also benefit the local economy by improving access to international markets and supporting tourism and corporate travel in the East of England.
Overall, Darwin Airline’s Cambridge base establishes a direct connection between the city and several major European centers, increasing competition on these routes and offering travelers additional choice in schedule and service. The updated facilities at Cambridge Airport aim to complement these new routes by providing a streamlined and comfortable experience for travelers using the expanded schedule.
