Copa Airlines Marks 75th Anniversary with Special Commemorative Livery

Copa Airlines recently marked its 75th anniversary by revealing a Boeing 737-800 NG painted in a livery inspired by the airline’s 1990s look. That decade was pivotal for Copa as it expanded its network, established the Hub of the Americas, strengthened connections across the continent, and promoted Panama as a global gateway.

More than 30 employees — including painters, designers and engineers — collaborated at Copa Airlines Maintenance Center at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City to complete the repaint. The project required over 2,500 hours of work and was finished in 15 days.

“This Boeing 737-800 NG painted in the colors that our fleet had at the beginning of the 90s commemorates a key time in our history when we created what would become the Hub of the Americas®, transforming Copa into the leading airline in the region,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines. “Our history reflects the commitment and accomplishments of our people, who have overcome many challenges while proudly carrying the Panamanian flag across the skies of the Americas for 75 years.”

The special-liveried aircraft was unveiled on August 31 and departed Panama City for New York as part of its inaugural flight. Going forward, the plane will serve selected routes across Copa’s network, which spans more than 75 destinations in 32 countries.
