Cathay Pacific has announced non-stop service between Hong Kong (HKG) and Washington, D.C. (IAD) beginning Sept. 15. Operated four times weekly, the route will be the airline’s longest direct flight at approximately 7,085 miles, connecting Hong Kong with Dulles International Airport.
The new service will use Cathay’s latest wide-body, the Airbus A350-1000, scheduled for delivery in spring 2018. This addition complements Cathay Pacific’s existing East Coast network, which currently includes Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK, EWR), and marks the carrier’s first non-stop link between Hong Kong and the U.S. capital region.
Rupert Hogg, Cathay Pacific’s chief executive officer, said the route responds to customer demand for more choices and greater flexibility. He noted that both Hong Kong and Washington, D.C. are dynamic international cities, and the new direct connection strengthens Hong Kong’s role as Asia’s major international hub while opening up new commercial opportunities.
This route is part of Cathay Pacific’s wider long-haul expansion across Europe and the United States, reinforcing the carrier’s strategy to grow its global network and offer more direct connectivity for travelers between Asia and key international destinations.
