Research shows solitary bee populations are declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation. In response, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is providing specially designed bee “hotels” to give these important pollinators a safe place to rest and nest.
“Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is excited to add a pollinator bee hotel to our sustainability initiatives,” said Alexandra Blum, vice president of public relations at FRHI Hotels & Resorts. “We look forward to offering these pint-sized guests the five-star treatment they deserve for helping keep ecosystems resilient. The Fairmont brand has long been a sustainability pioneer, and this project builds on our continued efforts to support pollinators of all kinds, including honeybee hives at more than 20 of our properties worldwide.”
The bee hotel initiative is part of a larger partnership with Burt’s Bees and its annual WILD FOR BEES campaign. Collaborating with Sustainable.TO Architecture + Building and Pollinator Partnership Canada, Fairmont helped design and construct five sustainable bee hotels—four in Toronto and one in Guelph. The first of these installations debuted at The Fairmont Royal York. The Toronto pilot program supports the luxury brand’s long-standing commitment to preserving and protecting the environments in which its properties operate, and Fairmont plans to expand the program to additional hotels next year.
