British Airways and Scottish carrier Loganair launched an official codeshare partnership on Sept. 1. The agreement allows passengers from the Scottish Highlands and Islands to book travel across BA’s global network on a single ticket, connecting through Inverness (INV), Edinburgh (EDI), Glasgow (GLA) and Aberdeen (ABZ). Through-ticketing enables travellers to check baggage at their origin and collect it at their final destination, simplifying connections and reducing stress.
The codeshare covers Loganair’s new services to and from Manchester (MAN), including connections linking Manchester with Glasgow, Inverness and Norwich (NWI). These coordinated schedules improve onward connectivity for both business and leisure passengers, making it easier to reach national and international destinations via British Airways’ hubs.
Although the two airlines have worked together for 25 years in various commercial roles, this marks their first formal codeshare arrangement since their previous franchise relationship from 1994 to 2008. The new partnership restores a closer commercial tie and formalises joint ticketing and network connectivity.
“We are delighted to be strengthening our business relationship with Loganair with an agreement that will benefit the customers of both airlines,” said Rishi Kapoor, head of alliances at British Airways. “We believe the new codeshare agreement will bring enormous benefits to the Highlands and Islands, significantly boosting the region’s economy by extending the global reach of the area’s businesses and communities through British Airways’ worldwide network with flights serving more than 200 destinations from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports.”
For passengers in the region, this codeshare means smoother connections, coordinated schedules and easier baggage handling when travelling beyond Scotland. It also improves access to British Airways’ extensive route map, offering more options for international travel without the need to book separate tickets. By integrating Loganair’s regional services with BA’s long-haul and short-haul network, the partnership aims to enhance convenience for travellers and support increased tourism and business links for the Highlands and Islands.
Operational benefits include streamlined booking and check-in processes, clearer itineraries, and aligned customer service procedures for connecting flights. For frequent flyers and occasional travellers alike, the arrangement provides a more seamless travel experience when transferring between Loganair’s regional routes and British Airways’ domestic and international services.
Overall, the codeshare represents a practical step toward better connectivity between Scotland’s regional airports and global destinations, reinforcing economic ties and offering passengers a simpler, more integrated travel option across both airlines’ networks.
