Blooming Gardens: Seasonal Tips to Keep Flowers Flourishing

Magnificent spring flowers are in full bloom in the Cederberg, and Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat offers some of the best viewing opportunities. At the peak of the season through the end of September, the blossoms transform the plains into a vibrant, multi-hued landscape.

Guests at Bushmans Kloof can choose a complimentary half-day excursion to the Biedouw Valley, which is included for full-board guests. The day begins with a scenic nature drive through the reserve to the Top of the World gate and continues into the heart of the Biedouw Valley, where thousands of flowers carpet the plains. A well-timed stop at Eagle’s Nest provides a superb lookout over Boontjiesberg and serves as the perfect setting for a gourmet picnic lunch prepared by Executive Chef Floris Smith.

The Cederberg sits within the Cape Floral Region, a UNESCO World Heritage site that safeguards one of the richest plant areas on Earth. Bushmans Kloof contributes to the conservation of this biodiversity, functioning as a sanctuary for more than 755 indigenous plant species and supporting the wider ecosystem.

Special rates for the three-night “spring flower spectacle” are available through December 31 and start at $75 per person per night sharing. The package includes nature drives, guided rock art excursions, botanical walks, archery, mountain biking, and all meals: a full English breakfast, an à la carte light lunch, afternoon high tea, and an à la carte dinner.

This season offers an excellent opportunity for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a restorative escape. The combination of dramatic landscapes, rich floral displays, and guided activities ensures both relaxation and discovery amid one of South Africa’s most treasured natural regions.
