Located in Botswana’s Chobe National Park, the newly redesigned Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge is one of the brand’s three safari properties in the country. Reopened last month after a carefully considered refurbishment, the lodge now features 12 tented guestrooms, a spa, a lounge and bar that open onto a deck, a swimming pool and a wildlife observatory with wide views across the plains. From the observatory guests can watch lions, cheetahs, hyenas, antelope, elephants and other native species in their natural habitat.
Perched alongside the Savute Channel, the lodge serves as a base for wildlife exploration and observation. Interior design by Muza Lab blends rich textures and an earthy color palette with contemporary touches. The lounge and bar flow onto an open deck that frames uninterrupted views of the surrounding plains, while furnishings—such as curved leather pieces and locally sourced materials—add tactile warmth and a sense of place. Guest tents are appointed with four-poster beds and writing desks, and carefully placed accents of colour enliven the naturally inspired tones.
“I have a huge love and respect for nature and the wilderness; it’s something we as humans need to cherish and protect — so being able to design a project in the Savute is a real passion; honor and huge responsibility,” said Inge Moore of Muza Lab. “My aim is to create interiors that are sensitive to the surroundings while offering spaces where people can connect with nature and with one another, taking home memories without leaving scars on the landscape. I focus on designs that feel contemporary and anchored in their location, yet layered and relaxing to inhabit.”
The lodge’s guest experience includes guided wildlife activities and on-site amenities designed for comfort and immersion in the environment. Rates start at $970 per night and include two daily game drives, meals and drinks, laundry service and park fees, providing an all-inclusive way to experience the Savute’s dramatic scenery and wildlife.
