Avani + Barbarons Resort Seychelles Reopens After Renovation, Opening Next Spring

Avani + Barbarons Seychelles Resort, which first opened in 2015 as one of the brand’s early resort properties, is undergoing a multimillion-dollar transformation and is scheduled to reopen in spring 2025. The property will adopt the AVANI+ designation, Avani’s elevated brand extension that highlights exceptional locations, refined design, additional facilities and enhanced food & beverage offerings.

Set on the western edge of the Indian Ocean, the resort has been fully reimagined. Updates include new dining venues, a beach club and a significant expansion featuring a lagoon-style swimming pool, direct-access lagoon rooms and newly introduced Avani beach suites.

The redesign embraces a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic while preserving the site’s natural environment. Interiors emphasize natural wood finishes, smart lighting solutions and partially outdoor bathrooms that blend tropical elements with modern detailing for a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere.

Guestrooms feature large picture windows framing the beach and comfortable daybeds for reading or relaxing. The renovation refreshes the existing 124 guestrooms and suites and adds 68 newly built rooms in an extension, bringing capacity to 192 accommodations overall.

The expansion introduces 26 Lagoon Access rooms that open directly onto the lagoon-style pool, set slightly back from the beach amid landscaped gardens. An additional 26 lagoon-view rooms overlook the pool and ocean. Four Avani beach suites—each comprised of four linked rooms—create private clusters suited to families and groups of friends. The resort’s main pool has been transformed into an infinity pool with a sunken bar, expanded beach decking and lush tropical planting.

Dining options have been expanded to include an all-day restaurant with an al fresco terrace and a spacious barbecue area serving breakfast alongside Creole and international dishes. A signature beachfront restaurant showcases local flavors with a focus on freshly caught fish and seafood, while a new beach club bar, staffed by skilled mixologists and featuring a DJ, provides cocktails and lively atmosphere.

Located on Mahé’s west coast, the resort occupies the white sands of Barbarons Beach on the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago. Port Launay Beach is a 15-minute drive along the coast and offers calm swimming and a variety of water-sport options. Seychelles International Airport and the capital, Victoria, are approximately 30 minutes from the resort by car, providing convenient access for travelers.
