Atlanta Resort Reopens After Major Renovation with New Amenities

The Whitley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Atlanta Buckhead is unveiling extensive multimillion-dollar renovations this month. The project, which began last fall, redesigned more than 500 guestrooms and refreshed multiple public spaces, including a new reception and lobby area, an updated ballroom, and a renovated restaurant and lounge. The spa was expanded to include a Himalayan salt room and larger dressing areas.

The redesigned lobby evokes the warmth and charm of a classic Southern home, centered around a fireplace and featuring a library and several elegant sitting areas. Guestrooms were reimagined with rich mahogany hardwood floors, Italian marble vanities, dedicated refreshment centers, honor bars and premium feather beds. A porch-inspired design thread runs through the rooms, expressed in flora-and-fauna motifs and woven raffia headboards. Artwork throughout the hotel includes curated bird prints and sketches of regionally important figures, while subtle buck rack details incorporated into the lighting pay homage to the Buckhead neighborhood.

These enhancements aim to blend contemporary comfort with local character, improving both private and shared spaces to meet modern traveler expectations while preserving a sense of place. Updated meeting and event facilities provide a refreshed ballroom and versatile public areas suitable for gatherings of various sizes. The upgraded restaurant and lounge offer renewed ambiance and service flow to better support dining and social experiences on property.

Guestroom upgrades focus on materials and conveniences that elevate stay comfort and convenience. New hardwood floors and Italian marble touches create a refined aesthetic; expanded refreshment centers and honor bars offer added in-room service options; and redesigned bathrooms and dressing areas support a more comfortable, spa-like routine. Decorative elements—such as nature-inspired textiles and locally relevant art—tie each room to the hotel’s Southern setting without overwhelming the overall design.

The spa enhancements include the addition of a Himalayan salt room, which complements the facility’s treatment offerings, and enlarged changing and prep spaces to improve guest flow and privacy. These updates reflect a broader emphasis on wellness and relaxation across the property.

Anthony Ingham, global brand leader for The Luxury Collection at Marriott, commented that the transformation underscores the brand’s dedication to restoring and elevating iconic hotels both in the United States and worldwide. The renovation balances thoughtful upgrades to accommodations and public areas with preservation of the hotel’s historical and cultural identity, giving guests an authentic Atlanta experience alongside modern amenities.

Overall, the renovation at The Whitley positions the property to better serve leisure and business travelers alike, providing refreshed interiors, enhanced event capabilities, and an elevated spa and dining environment—all designed to reflect Buckhead’s distinctive character while delivering contemporary luxury.
