Arrival/Check-In: Argos in Cappadocia stands out as one of the most distinctive places to stay in the region. Set on the grounds of an ancient monastery in Old Uçhisar Village, the hotel occupies carefully restored historic dwellings, caves and underground tunnels. I arrived at night to a welcoming lobby that felt like a cozy living room, warmed by a glowing fire. Note that because the property is integrated into the natural rock formations, some areas may be challenging for guests with mobility issues; however, staff are available to assist with luggage. Check-in was efficient and I was promptly escorted to my room.
Guest Quarters: The property comprises 51 suites and guestrooms spread across six restored mansions. My large deluxe room carried subtle monastic details and a museum-like atmosphere, with artifacts displayed behind Plexiglas and softly backlit within the stone walls. The bedroom area included a coffeemaker, heater and a small desk set into a stone arch by the window. Reading lamps and side tables flanked the bed. I missed having an in-room television, as I often like some background noise to fall asleep in unfamiliar surroundings. All rooms feature fireplaces and complimentary WiFi, though the connection in my room was intermittently weak.
The bathroom was the standout feature, located a few steps down from the bedroom. It was generously sized, accented by a red-and-black antique rug and a substantial stone shower. With plenty of space to get ready and a heated towel rack, I appreciated a long, hot rainfall shower after a day of exploring.
Services/Amenities: The layout and scope of Argos in Cappadocia take time to fully appreciate; during a one-night stay I only scratched the surface. I enjoyed both the breakfast buffet and dinner at the on-site SEKİ Restaurant. Breakfast offered a wide selection as well as made-to-order items; service was a bit slow the morning I visited, so the buffet is a good option for a quicker meal. Dinner was memorable—overlooking the softly lit property at night provided a beautiful backdrop. The hotel also features an impressive underground wine cellar and offers distinctive meeting and event spaces.
The Experience: Simply put, Argos in Cappadocia offers an experience unlike most hotels. Its character and setting may mean it does not provide every contemporary luxury amenity, but the overall ambiance and uniqueness make it a compelling choice for travelers seeking something special. Most guests will find the stay rewarding and memorable.
