Arctic Adventure Guide: Top Things to See and Do in the Arctic

Explore the Arctic wilderness in comfort. Natural Habitat Adventures is introducing Greenland as a new luxury destination, offering immersive nature experiences on the island’s remote east coast.

Each eight-night small-group expedition is limited to 12 travelers, ensuring personalized service and a low-impact experience. Departures are scheduled for 2015: August 1, August 9, August 18 and August 26.

“Until now, Greenland’s remote east coast, carved by glaciers and rent by deep fjords filled with icebergs, has been inaccessible to all but the hardiest travelers,” said Ben Bressler, founder and president of Natural Habitat Adventures.

The highlight of the itinerary is a four-night stay at Base Camp Greenland on Sermilik Fjord, located in a sunlit stretch nicknamed the Arctic Riviera. The region is known for dry, clear summer weather and dramatic glacial scenery. Activities at the camp include whale watching, sea kayaking, guided hikes and visits to traditional Inuit villages, all designed to introduce travelers to Greenland’s culture and wildlife.

Accommodations at Base Camp Greenland feature heated private tent-cabins with comfortable beds, duvets and pillows, carpeting, en suite toilets and washbasins, plus verandas with expansive views over the fjord. Private hot showers are provided in a separate facility. A camp chef prepares fresh, creative meals served in the shared dining area, where guests also gather for relaxation and interpretive presentations that deepen understanding of the region’s ecology and human history.
