Rather than standing in line at a traditional front desk, I was greeted by a host carrying an electronic clipboard who completed the registration and swiped my credit card within minutes. That efficiency was especially welcome since I was on my way to Global Traveler’s awards ceremony and had no time to wait. My luggage was delivered to the room promptly, making the whole arrival seamless and hassle-free. (30/30)
Guest Quarters: My corner suite impressed me with a thoughtful, practical layout that separated living, dressing and sleeping areas. The suite’s entry opened into a TV and sitting room, an ideal spot for dining or entertaining guests. The center of the suite was a dressing area leading to a spacious black marble bathroom with a rain shower and a large square soaking tub. At the far end of the suite was a king bed, alongside a combined desk and vanity unit with a mounted flat-screen TV. The room felt comfortable and, more importantly, highly functional.
The décor was contemporary and understated, with oak floors and large windows that look out over the Wall Street district. I appreciated features designed for convenience and comfort, such as a blackout shade controlled by a bedside button. The suite included two 42-inch LCD TVs, a Geneva sound system with an iPod dock, a complimentary minibar stocked with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, and complimentary wireless internet. These touches contributed to a polished, modern room experience. (28/30)
Service/Amenities: The staff were attentive and clearly motivated to provide excellent service. Since the property had only recently opened, in-room dining was not available after 9 p.m., which was a temporary limitation. To compensate, the hotel provided complimentary snacks and bottled water in the room and offered complimentary room service for breakfast. I found that gesture fair and generous, particularly because I had not complained about the restricted late-night room service. Overall, service efforts helped offset the brief limitations that come with a new opening. (39/40)
