Amtrak Boosts Wi-Fi on Northeast Corridor Trains for Faster Service

Amtrak has upgraded WiFi on its Northeast Corridor trains to provide a more reliable connection and easier access to high-speed broadband.

Acela Express passengers are already seeing the benefits: improved connection stability, faster page loads, smoother audio and video streaming, and greater VPN reliability for customers connecting to corporate networks.

This summer, Northeast Regional trains will receive new processors, upgraded modem cards, and enhanced antennas designed to boost speed and overall performance. These hardware improvements will reduce load times for web pages and media, and make uploading and downloading files faster and more consistent for riders.

“These WiFi upgrades are another example of recent steps we have taken to improve the customer experience and why we are the preferred choice for travel on the Northeast Corridor,” said Amtrak vice president of marketing Kerry McKelvey.

Later this summer, Amtrak will introduce a simplified WiFi landing page to make connecting easier and clearer for passengers.

Beyond trains, Amtrak is also enhancing WiFi at 29 stations across its national network to provide better connectivity before and after boarding. View a full list of wireless-enabled stations on the Amtrak website.
